CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- The Lee women's lacrosse team takes on Young Harris in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference tournament on Wednesday afternoon from the Multi-Sport Complex at 4 p.m.
This marks the second time the Lady Flames have made it to the GSC tournament and the first time Lee has been the No. 1 seed. Coach Derrel Martin and his squad come into the contest 9-3 overall and was a perfect 4-0 in conference actions.
Young Harris comes into the match 4-7 on the year with a 1-3 mark in the GSC.Â
LAST MEETING
These two teams met on April 1st as Lee came away as the victors in a 15-14 decision on the road.
The win was riddled with milestones for the Lady Flames in their first victory over the Mountain Lions in the short program history. Brittney White tied what was then the program record with eight goals and Dariana Blanton tied the then program record with 10 points. Blanton also became only the second player in school history to reach 100 points.Â
Blanton scored the game-winning goal with just over two minutes remaining in the contest to complete the second-half comeback for Lee.Â
Caleigh Smith came in at the break and recorded two saves on seven shots to pick up the win on her record.
Taylor Greenburg led Young Harris with four goals while Anna Luckie had four assists. Aubrie Valvo led all players with 10 draw controls.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Flames took down Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, 17-7, on senior day to conclude the regular season.
Blanton led all players with six goals and Shayna Ryan threw in four of her own. White came away with 12 draw controls and Kaleigh Bernard came away with five saves on 12 shots on goal in the full match.Â
Young Harris fell to Montevallo, 18-17, all the way back on April 11th, and their April 15th match against Tusculum was canceled.
Valvo led the Mountain Lions against Montevallo with five goals while Greenburg threw in four of her own and Leigh Anne Turner was the final player to complete the hat trick with three.Â
Maddy Meyers had nine saves in the contest while Ella Hancock recorded nine draw controls and her and Kesey Dover had four ground balls each.
BLANTON GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Blanton was named player of the week for the second week in a row.
The Canton, Georgia native posted six goals all while putting seven of her eight shots on goal and was 3-of-4 on free-position shots. Blanton added three ground balls and a caused turnover in the win over the Warriors.Â

Lee comes into the contest leading the GSC in save percentage (0.429) and is 26th in the nation in shots on goal per game (24.58).
White is second in the nation and leads the conference in draw controls per game (8.17) while coming in second in Division II in goals (55), third in goals per game (4.58), eighth in points (61), 24th in points per game (5.08), 11th in shots per game (8.25), and fifth in shots on goal per game (7.17).
Blanton is 13th in the nation with 25 assists, 15th in free position goals per game (1.25), eighth in goals (43), fifth in points (68), and 11th in points per game (5.67).
As a team Young Harris currently leads the country in draw controls per game (18.92), while ranking 14th in assists per game (7.25), 23rd in ground balls per game (20.92), 18th in points per game (22.33), 22nd in scoring offense (15.08), 24th in shot percentage (0.492), and 22nd in shots per goal per game (24.92).
Valvo is currently eighth in the nation with 7.33 draw controls per game. Greenburg is seventh in goals (44), 25th in goals per game (3.67), and 23rd in points (48). Meyers is 13th in Division II with 101 saves.
WITH A WIN
With a win, both teams will advance to the GSC championship game on Saturday.
If the Lady Flames win they will host the winner of Alabama Huntsville and Montevallo. Young Harris will have to travel.
