Lady Flames Win Fourth Consecutive South Region Championship

Hawkins Becomes Second Lady Flame To Win Individual Region Title

RESULTS

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Lee University women's cross country team placed four runners among the top six runners to claim its fourth consecutive NCAA Division II South Region Championship Saturday morning at the Montevallo Cross Country Course.

The Lady Flames recorded 28 points and finished 37 points ahead of runner-up University of Tampa (65). Mississippi College was right behind Tampa for third with 68 points. The three teams earn the South Region's three automatic berths to the DII National Championships in Joplin, Missouri on November 18.

Aria Hawkins was the top individual performer. She crossed the finish line of the 6K race at 20:34.69. Lauren Wallace of Mississippi College was second at 20:40.56.

Liza Kellerman stopped the clock at 20:44.72 for third place. McKenna Cavanaugh (20:49.89) was fifth and Danielle Horter placed sixth overall at 20:50.10. Ashlyn Iliff was Lee's final scorer and crossed at 21:24.18 (13th).

Katie Krueger and Zoe Brickley were the spacers. Krueger finished 14th overall (21:24.63) and Brickley's time of 21:45.37 gave the Lady Flames seven of the top 24 finishers.

"Our women keep getting better every meet. This was a huge day for McKenna and Danielle. They did an amazing job closing the gap to Liza who closed the gap to Aria."
