BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Three Lee University women's lacrosse players earned All-Gulf South Conference honors as announced by the league on Thursday. For the fourth straight season, Brittney White earned First Team All-GSC honors, while senior Maggie Luzier and graduate student Kelsey McGowen were on the Second Team All-GSC.
White leads the team and GSC in draw controls at 116. She is ninth in the country in draw controls as well. White has 37 goals on five assists on 76 shots this season. She has been on the First Team All-GSC in four of the five season she has played with COVID-19 interrupting her freshman season.
Head Coach Megan Smith was excited that White earned first team honors once again, "Brittney White has a incredible career at Lee she hold the record for most draws, most points, and most goals. She also hold the GSC Career Draw control record! She had another impactful year with her lacrosse play and not just for Lee Lacrosse but in the GSC and the entire nation. She led all GSC players in draw controls and in the nation she currently ranks ninth in draw controls per game. I'm super excited to see her add to that during tournament play. Her knowledge not only with taking the draw but all over the field is so impactful and she makes everyone around her better!"
Luzier leads team in 59 points (40 goals and 19 assists). She is fifth in the GSC in goals and sixth in assists. Her 59 points are fourth best in the GSC. Luzier has taken the second most shots with 88. She is fifth with ground balls in the GSC with 29.
"Maggie has worked extremely hard for this accolade. She leads teams in points with 40 goals and 19 assists while playing both sides of the ball for us. Her hustle and passion for lacrosse is unmatched," noted Smith.
McGowen has anchored the defense for Lee once again this season. She has helped Lee to 242 clears and 308 ground balls. She has scooped up 24 ground balls and forced 16 turnovers while only having six turnovers. She was GSC Defensive Player of the week back on April 16.
"Kelsey McGowen has been a staple of the Lee defense for five years. Her big energy and presence was big for us. The confidence she has when she takes risks in our system on defense produced 16 caused turnovers on the year which led our team. She is a leader on the field, and she also serves an important role for our team wellness as one of our team Chaplains.," remarked Smith.
